Please understand that Shasta Lake is a reservoir for irrigation throughout California.  This results in the lake being the highest in the late Spring and the lowest in the fall.  Light rainfall winters impact the starting point.  The Spring might start as a full lake like it did in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 or down like it did in 2020, 2021 and 2022.  Please understand the view from our decks will vary.  We have tried to represent the different levels in the photos above.  For more on lake level photos, go to the Lake Level section of web site.

Forest fires are also common in Northern California in the Summer and Fall.  This can impact the skies where one day it might be clear blue skies and the next day might have a haze or smoke in the area.
